How to share files in the community
Members often need to upload Vectric project files, toolpath files, photos, or other resources when asking questions in our weekly Q&A or when sharing projects inside the Learn Your CNC Academy community.
This guide walks you through three ways to share your files:
- Upload through cloud storage (recommended)
- Upload directly to the community as a PDF (workaround)
- Email your file to our team

Method 1: Upload Files Through Cloud Storage (Recommended)
Cloud storage is the best way to share files in the community.
It allows you to upload any file type or even a full folder of project-related files, such as:
- .crv / .crv3d files
- Toolpath files
- Photos, screenshots, or videos
- ZIP files
- Multiple project assets in a single shared folder
Sharing through cloud storage ensures:
- You don’t need to rename files
- Anyone can download the file instantly
- Your question remains publicly searchable in the community for future students
- You can revoke access anytime from the file or folder by changing the permissions
You can use Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud, or any other cloud provider. Below are detailed steps for the most common services.
Option A: Microsoft OneDrive (Single File or Entire Folder)
To share a single file or a folder:
- Locate the file or folder on your computer.
Right-click → choose Share.
Set permissions to “Anyone with the link can view.”
- If not set, we won’t be able to open it.
- Click Copy Link.
- Paste the link inside your community post along with your question.
Sharing a folder works the same way as sharing a file.
Option B: Google Drive (Single File or Entire Folder)
To upload a single file:
- Go to drive.google.com → New → File Upload.
To upload multiple files:
- Upload multiple files at once or
- Put them all in one folder and upload the folder instead of each file individually
To share the file or folder:
- Click on the file or folder in Drive to highlight it.
- Click Share.
- Change access to “Anyone with the link.”
- Click Copy Link.
- Paste the link into your community post.
⭐ Tip:
Sharing a folder is often the cleanest way to send multiple files needed for troubleshooting.
Method 2: Upload Directly to the Community as a PDF (Workaround)
If you prefer attaching your file directly, you can rename a Vectric file by adding “.pdf” to the end.
This method still only allows one attachment at a time, so if you have multiple files, cloud storage is still recommended.
⚠️ This method requires extra steps when uploading and downloading.
Cloud storage is still the easiest option.
Step 1: Turn On File Name Extensions
- Open File Explorer.
- Go to View → enable File Name Extensions.
Step 2: Rename Your File
Right-click your file → Rename.
Add “.pdf” to the end.
- Example:
project.crv→project.crv.pdf
- Example:
- Click Yes when Windows warns you about changing the extension.
Step 3: Upload the File
- Go to your community post.
- Click the “+” icon to attach a file.
- Select your renamed file.
Step 4: How Others Download It
Anyone who downloads the file will need to:
- Right-click the attachment → Save link as
- Remove “.pdf” from the filename
- Ensure it ends with the correct extension (e.g.,
.crv,.crv3d) - Save and open it normally
Method 3: Email Your File to Our Team
If you’re unable to upload your file(s) using one of the methods above, you can email your file(s) directly to us.
When emailing, please include:
- Your full name
- A detailed description of your question
- The file(s) needed for us to help you
⭐ Important:
We still recommend using Method 1 (Cloud Storage) whenever possible.
Posting your question inside the community ensures:
- Your question is visible to other students
- Future members can learn from your post
- You can receive faster help during weekly Q&A
- The answer becomes part of our searchable community knowledge base
Email is perfectly fine when you're stuck, but community posts benefit everyone long-term.
Which Method Should You Use?
| Method | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Storage (Recommended) | Most users & all file types | Easiest, most reliable, keeps your question available for future reference. |
| PDF Upload Workaround | When you prefer the file attached directly | Requires renaming steps for both you and others. |
| When you cannot upload or link your file | Slower and not searchable in the community. |
